Get Inspired By These Award-Winning Packaging from the 2024 Dieline Awards

Now in its 15th year, the Dieline Awards continue to be one of the world’s largest global packaging design competitions, celebrating the top designers and agencies worldwide who excel in product packaging. This event highlights the immense value of packaging design for brands.

This year’s entries feature not only bold and innovative designs but also numerous brands dedicated to using plastic-free and sustainable materials. Let’s explore this year’s award-winning creations and their stories!

Best of Show

Sitch Hair by Lyon & Lyon

Not only sustainable but stylish enough to keep in the bathroom– that’s what Sitch Hair asked from Lyon & Lyon. The agency delivered by designing a semi-cylindrical bottle that can be nestled together or placed flat against a wall. The sand-coloured bottle, featuring a satin straw effect, resembles ceramic and its curved surface forms a full cylinder. Now that’s style!

Studio of The Year

Wedge

As a global design agency, Wedge firmly embraces the philosophy that “EVERYTHING CAN BE SPECIAL”. Whether it’s a playful wine brand breaking traditional moulds or a nostalgic sunscreen evoking the spirit of the 80s, Wedge ensures every project stands out with creativity and innovation.

Editor’s Choice

OMY Laboratories by Wedge

Omy Laboratories specialises in personalised skincare products. Now a rework, their new logo features serif fonts with each product categorised with a distinct colour system highlighting functions like “soothing” and “moisturising” to improve visibility on packaging.

Plastic-Free Innovation of The Year

Vivomer by Shellworks

Vivomer is an innovative, vegan, and compostable mono material derived from microorganisms sourced from soil and marine environments, essentially serving as fish food. This natural polyester material functions similarly to plastic, ideal for tubs and jars, and completely degrades within 52 weeks after disposal, with no microplastic residue, offering a sustainable packaging alternative. A smart innovation from Shellworks!

Best of Brand Identity

Togo’s New Visual Identity by Marimo

Marimo gives the chocolate brand Togo a design makeover, incorporating bright colours, dynamic illustrations, and a distinctive personality. Moving away from classic 20th-century aesthetic, the updated design features graffiti-style elements and bold sans-serif fonts, creating a modern and eye-catching look.

Design for Good Award

Scottish Malt Whisky Society by STCKMN

The Scottish Malt Whisky Society collaborated with Glasgow-based designer Chris Wilson of STCKMN to create ‘’One Drop‘, a unique whisky showcased through a handmade paper sculpture. This artwork intricately connects the whisky with its 33-year-aged sherry cask, incorporating sawdust from the cask into the sculpture.

Designanalytics Design Effectiveness Award

CVS Beauty by CBA USA

Previously known as Beauty 360, CVS Beauty has long been recognized for offering top-tier beauty and personal care items. The recent redesign by CBA USA signifies a transformative change, retiring the Beauty 360 brand in favour of CVS Beauty, a move that underscores product efficacy, premium quality, and inclusivity.

Best of Food

Smallhold by Gander

Smallhold grows specialty mushrooms through vertical farming, and with its latest pesto made from food waste, it offers consumers an umami sauce for dipping and spreading. The toad-shaped top directly highlights the quirkiness of the product without losing its essence.

Best of Beverage

30 Knots Distillery by Clay Andrews

It is indeed the best beverage packaging! 30 Knot’s Distillery’s lighthouse-designed bottle is inspired by the Australian topography and features foil, varnish and embossing over a heavyweight paper, with the postal code embossed in the centre.

Myerton Packaging offers custom spirits packaging to solidify your brand story and ethos.

Best of Health, Beauty & Personal Care

Uoga Uoga Kids by Andstudio

Uoga Uoga Kids anthropomorphizes soaps, shampoos and lotions, giving them cute expressions. Plus, kids can also decorate them with reusable stickers! The purple packaging is striking enough to pop from the shelves and the illustrations capture the target market making bath and brush time extra fun.

Best of Home, Shopping & Other Markets

SmartDevil by Shenzhen Tigerpan Design Co., Ltd.

Shenzhen-based Tigerpan Design’s SmartDevil screen protector packaging relies on the interlocking nature of its dieline to achieve just that. While the recyclable factor is an obvious plus, you can’t ignore how the brand uses stylised, type-inspired graphics to accurately translate the product, making for a bold and playful packaging.

Best of Sustainability

UniSleep by Hangzhou XIVO Design Co., Ltd.

Instead of using multiple products to package, like bubble wrap and another shipping box, UniSleep‘s pillows are protected and transported in the same box it comes in. The pillows are packaged in a reusable cloth bag and product information is printed inside the packaging, giving no place to use another paper. Talk about sustainability!
